CHAIR
Soleus
Soleus is a chair drawn from the language of tension and anatomical resistance. Named after the deep calf muscle that powers upright posture and subtle propulsion, the piece encodes the logic of muscular flexion into its structure.
The form emerges from a study of ankle biomechanics—specifically the moment of lean and drive in skiing, where stillness becomes movement. Through digital force-mapping and binder jet 3D printing, the chair captures this postural torque: arching, bracing, pressing.
Neither passive seat nor ornamental object, Soleus operates as a spatial device—inviting the body into a state of readiness, a sculptural echo of exertion made still.
