Where does the gaze lie?
Inspired by Oscar Wilde’s timeless classic Salome, my work reimagines the play’s persistent theme of the ‘gaze’ through a recursive lens. Salome, at first subjected to the penetrating gaze and oppression of others, gradually transforms into both gazer and oppressor. Her fixation on Saint John becomes a simulated environment of desire: an unstable space where object and image, memory and projection, collapse into one another. In this crystalline structure of time, her longing refracts endlessly, culminating in her own tragic dissolution.
