Tension as Two Folds
As a broken fluorescent tube sprawls along trash on a curb, and a rusted tow-hitch decays ahead of a freshly painted fence, in ruination, their former functions have inflected a value once held before. About to fully break or to be fully disposed of, these so-called objects have been salvaged from peri-urban London. Their new setting here is both restless and real. Rods, screws, wires and plates of metal serve to syncretise both bodies, to postulate a dotted dialogue between the two as to stabilize their new arrangement. Central to this interface, light and sound fall low, reminiscent of the previous object modus operandi, now inherently obsolete. When either object is picked up again, illumination unsettles and sound syncopates between metal plates near the pole base. The viewer of this interface becomes transformed from a passive observer to a participant. Wires are stretched to ensure their loose control. Weighted sacks above give balance to the dynamic below. Such diagonality, delay and phasing present uncertainty of what each object can now do. Each body perpetually provisional, always a constituent for its next place.
