Parallel Sites
Mise en Abyme: London is a dual-site exhibition by Wedge for London Design Festival 2025. Drawing from the recursive logic of Alain Resnais’ Last Year at Marienbad, the exhibition explores how fiction, memory, and material presence reflect and distort one another across two parallel locations. One site will host a studio-led installation by Wedge at Space House in Covent Garden. The other, The Black Shop in King’s Cross, will feature a curated group exhibition selected via open call.

Open Call: The Black Shop
Wedge invites submissions from artists, designers, and interdisciplinary practitioners for a curated group exhibition at The Black Shop, an independent exhibition space in King’s Cross, London.
This exhibition forms part of Mise en Abyme, Wedge’s two-site presentation for London Design Festival 2025. It explores the condition of temporal and material dislocation—a state in which time fractures, matter becomes unstable, and perception loops in on itself.
We are seeking works that respond to the following conceptual threads:for
Time as a crystalline structure
Simulated or constructed environments
Recursive or fractured perception
Shifting thresholds between object and image, memory and projection
Submissions may take the form of sculptural installation, moving image, sound, digital media, performative gesture, or hybrid formats. We are particularly interested in practices that engage:
Speculative or experimental fabrication methods
Cinematic logic or non-linear narrative
States of material instability or transformation
Dreamlike architectures and recursive environments
The collapse between representation and reality
The exhibition will be curated as a spatial and psychological study of mise en abyme—not simply as a visual motif, but as a condition of entanglement, repetition, and mirrored fictions.
We welcome proposals from emerging and established practitioners whose work resonates with these topics.
